Easy BBQ Dry Rub

The flavor profile

Brown sugar separates this rub from the pepper-led Steak Seasoning. Smoked paprika gives it a smoky direction, garlic and onion build the savory layer, and mustard powder adds another note. Cayenne supplies the adjustable heat without changing those base ingredients.

What to use it on

Ribs, chicken and pork are the listed dishes for this rub. Choose the amount of dry blend you want before measuring: a small dinner and a larger cookout need different batches. The app scales by spoon and cup volume, making it easier to repeat the same proportions next time.

Is a dry rub the same as a sauce?

This recipe is a dry seasoning mix, not a BBQ sauce. Its ingredient list contains powders, sugar and salt rather than a liquid sauce base. It is the collection's rub option for ribs, chicken and pork.

Make it with Spice Blends Made Easy

Choose a dry batch of 1 tbsp, ¼ cup, ½ cup or 1 cup and get the ingredient amounts in spoon-and-cup measurements. Mild, Medium, Hot and Fiery settings adjust chili powder, cayenne or red pepper flakes where the recipe includes them. Blends without those ingredients do not gain extra chili heat.
