Homemade Jerk Seasoning
Homemade jerk seasoning starts with a distinctive allspice-and-thyme profile. Caribbean Jerk in Spice Blends Made Easy combines those ingredients with brown sugar, garlic, onion and warming spices. It is a dry blend for jerk chicken, pork and grilled fish.

The flavor profile
Allspice and thyme set this blend apart from the BBQ rub. Cinnamon and nutmeg add aromatic notes, while brown sugar joins the savory garlic-and-onion base. Cayenne brings the heat in this version. It is the app's own jerk-style blend rather than a promise of one universal Caribbean recipe.
What to use it on
Chicken, pork and grilled fish are the listed pairings. Keep the dry batch size separate from how much food you are preparing, and choose the heat setting before measuring the spices.

How to make homemade jerk seasoning
- 1Choose a batch size, from 1 tbsp for one meal up to 1 cup for a jar, and pick Mild, Medium, Hot or Fiery.
- 2Measure the allspice, brown sugar, dried thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne with level spoons.
- 3Break up any lumps of brown sugar with a fork, then stir until the color looks even.
- 4Spoon it into a clean, dry jar with a tight lid. Brown sugar can clump in a humid kitchen, so give the jar a shake before each use.

Common questions
- Is dry jerk seasoning the same as a jerk marinade?
- No. This is a dry rub. Many jerk marinades blend similar spices with fresh ingredients such as scallions, hot peppers and lime. You can rub the dry blend straight onto meat, or stir it into a little oil and citrus juice for a quick paste.
- How much jerk seasoning should I use?
- The collection's guide is about 1 tbsp per pound of chicken or pork. Start there, then taste and adjust next time.
- How long does homemade jerk seasoning keep?
- Dried ground spices slowly lose their aroma. Make a batch you will use within a few months and keep it sealed, away from heat, light and moisture.
How does this differ from Cajun seasoning?
Caribbean Jerk includes allspice, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cajun Seasoning is paprika-led with oregano and thyme. Both contain cayenne, but their base flavors are different.
Make it with Spice Blends Made Easy
Choose a dry batch of 1 tbsp, ¼ cup, ½ cup or 1 cup and get the ingredient amounts in spoon-and-cup measurements. Mild, Medium, Hot and Fiery settings adjust chili powder, cayenne or red pepper flakes where the recipe includes them. Blends without those ingredients do not gain extra chili heat.
